FAQ
Note: These FAQS do not supplant our Terms of Use.
- Is the CyberSmart! Student Curriculum protected by copyright?
Yes, it is. All content of this website, and any materials downloaded from it, but excluding materials downloaded from any third party linked site, are copyrighted © All rights reserved. The CyberSmart! Student Curriculum is protected by United States and International Copyright laws.
- May I place a copy of one or more of your lessons on our school or district website?
We prefer that you place links to our lessons on your site because we routinely update them. However, if for some reason you feel that placing lessons on your site will help your teachers more, please do contact us for permission. If permission is granted, we will request that you use the following verbiage: Copyright CyberSmart! Education. Used with Permission.
- May I put CyberSmart! Student Curriculum lessons on my district's intranet?
No, to protect our trademarked and copyrighted material, we don't allow copying of our web pages, PDFs, videos, and other files and posting them on internal computer networks/websites. Instead, consider developing a grid to show how and when to teach CyberSmart! materials and provide links to our website.
- Why don't you allow copying of CyberSmart! materials to school intranets?
There are two reasons. First, we want to make sure that educators are using the most up-to-date versions of our materials and the best way to do that is to come to our website. Second, we want to know you are interested in our materials, and while we do not require registration to use them, we keep track of traffic to our site, track the number of downloads, and invite users to give us feedback.
- May I save CyberSmart! lesson plans and Student Activities Sheets on my home computer or my school computer?
Yes, you may download copies of individual PDF files and web pages for your personal use or limited educational use in your own classroom.
- We want to use your lesson plans but add some customized information specific to our needs. May we?
As our lessons are under copyright protection, you may not copy them, or add your own teaching strategies, and then present it as yours or even CyberSmart!'s work. Instead, we suggest that you develop a "companion" set of instructions and link your colleagues to our web pages and PDFs for our work. For example, your "companion" notes might include your local curriculum standards or objectives, pacing charts, and suggestions for how to integrate CyberSmart! materials into content-area instruction.
- May we delete portions of, or reword, your materials before using them?
This would be considered a derivative work and is a right of the copyright owner alone. You may not change the materials found in the CyberSmart! Student Curriculum website without written permission from The CyberSmart! Education Company.
- May we translate to another language all or portions of the CyberSmart! Student Curriculum?
If you would like to translate our materials into another language, you must contact us first and obtain permission.
- May we adapt all or portions of the CyberSmart! Student Curriculum for students with disabilities?
If you would like to adapt our materials, for example converting Student Activity Sheets to Braille, you must contact us first and obtain permission.
- I teach in a non-profit private school. May I use CyberSmart! Curriculum materials in my classes?
Yes, you may use these materials to teach your students in the classroom.
- May I use the CyberSmart! Curriculum materials when I provide private tutoring services or give classes for profit?
No, you may not charge for your services and use of our materials nor may you profit from using our materials. They are for personal or limited educational use only.
- May I use the name CyberSmart! as the name of my school's homegrown technology use curriculum?
No, the names "CyberSmart!" and "Be CyberSmart!" (with and without the exclamation point) are registered trademarks and you cannot use them without permission. Other product names, company names, brand names and trade names that may be mentioned within this website may be the trademarks, service marks, trade names and/or logos of their respective owners.
